Do you ever ponder the difference between a 'customer' and a 'client'?  Unfortunately, the two are interchangeable to some, but the definitions are clear and concisely different.

customer
1. a person who purchases goods or services from another…

client
1. a person or group that uses the professional advice or services of a lawyer, accountant, advertising agency, architect, etc.

Now using this same logic, think about the difference between the terms "reactive" and "proactive".  Clearly different in their respective meanings, but apply the words 'technology support' behind each, and to most it is simply 'technology support'.  A painful term revered by most business owners.  Fortunately, a shift in perspective offers these same business owners reprieve from their daunting day-to-day quest for technological homeostasis!

Addressing the terms "reactive" and "proactive" once again, it is common to assume reactive measures for most incidences.  When it snows on my windshield, I must quickly sweep off the snow to avoid being late to my appointment in the morning.  However, if I foresee the chance, or propensity for snow, I may consider placing plastic or card board on the windshield to avoid the extended downtime required to fix - or address the situation.  Or possibly I pull my car into the garage for protection.  Regardless of the chosen action, choosing to avoid the "worse case scenario" is the point here.  For lack of better analogies, think of your Technology Systems as your car, and snow as random annoyances which impede workflow.  Rather than face inevitable downtime when reacting to technology-related issues after they've occurred, one may consider proactive measures to monitor and alert on such lingering issues before they happen.  I'm just saying!
